I 'd like some clarification what the config opts are intended to do exactly?

Automamtic clear cache mode:
On first visit after hour
On first visit after interval (hours)
Only component or module cache, if old page found
Automamtic remove cache mode:
On first visit after hour
On first visit after interval (hours)
